Castillo de Sabiote II
- Influenced by Renaissance Italian fortresses,it is the oldest example of Renaissance castle fortified with bastions preserved in the whole country.
- The inside was severely damaged by lootings and bombing by Napoleon’s troops.
- However, the restoration works that took place provide visitors with a very good idea of the majesty of the most important military construction in the province during the 16th century.
- Declared Artistic Monument in 1931, in this second issue we will focus on the inside.
More about this place…
Sabiote was a walled town with six entrance gates, only three of them are preserved. In 1931 the castle was declared Historical Monument, and in 1982 the wall was declared Historical - Artistical Group. Despite the damage caused by the French troops, the restoration works are giving back little by little the full splendour that once had.
